I’ve had a few moments in my life where I’ve realized I need to stop playing video games, as it was becoming an all-consuming thing.
It’s really embarrassing because it’s like taking a t-break, and then you realize oh yeah I guess I kinda am addicted to this thing.
At the beginning of June I hit a breaking point when I kept bouncing between different MMOs and co-op games and I actually lowkey LOST it. The night ended with me staring at my desktop screen, succumbing into nothingness. I’ve felt that before and tried to force my way through it, and the result of that is every night ending the same exact way.
It’s depressing, it’s lonely, it’s counterintuitive to living. So I decided to let go of it for a bit.
It’s been nice to hang out more with friends, get seriously into reading, and have extra time to try to learn new skills. Right now I’m working on getting a certification through Coursera for IT Support. It’s really difficult to go from my full-time computer job to playing video games to more computer course work, turns out twenty-four hour screen time is not good for you!
Well anyway, today I wanted to play something I could get lost in for a little bit. I like using video games as an escape, and it’s easy to do! But you can’t just hide in them.

Here’s a screenshot from Star Citizen, a game where I just float around in space for the aesthetics.
I’ll be playing video games again in the future, but not nearly at the rate I was doing it before, and that is for the best!
