I know I’m very much late to this party, but Pinterest is actually a very cool app. I knew you went to it for design inspiration and stuff like that, but I wasn’t aware that it’s basically a search engine like Google. I’m wondering if it was always like that because if so, I really did not pay attention in class.
Back in high school, we had to create a Pinterest account to pretend we were stage managers finding props for shows. I was assigned Arsenic and Old Lace, and this is what I came up with for that task.

A pair of spectacles, old candy in a jar, an assortment of canes because I didn’t want be specific, and a typewriter. I really was not always a good student. “Props” is the only board I have on Pinterest, and it’s TWELVE YEARS OLD. I just checked, and the glasses used to be part of an Etsy shop, which has since been shut down. The glass jar also had its own website, and though you can no longer buy the item, they can still get traffic from Pinterest to go to their main site through that image. This is the really cool part though, because you create tags to put on your Pinterest boards and pins, people look it up, and can then get redirected to whatever website you’ve set up for it.
This is what SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is all about. It’s one big game of figuring out what the right tags are that people are searching to get them to look at nothing but your ideas and build trust in that brand. Lowkey kinda soulless algorithm work, I love what the internet has become!
Further research shows that glass jar site has an Etsy shop which has also been open for twelve years. They’ve made 26.6 thousand sales! That’s a lot, I think overall that comes out to around $22,000-$28,000 a year with how they’ve priced their products. Might not be much in terms of it being a main business, but from a side hustle perspective that is great! Still incredibly cool to think of the fact that Pinterest can actively help you with your business.
I want to learn how to utilize this eventually, because while this is a creative process, it seems we live in a world where you have to find a way to monetize absolutely everything you do, or else it’s a waste.

That’s extremely unfortunate and sad and I hope one day it changes, but as this is the reality, I hope to use Pinterest to direct even more web traffic one day to be able to apply for something like Google Adsense or some other big ad service. For right now, this is still a learning process and I’m having fun.
I want you guys to have fun, too. So here’s everybody’s favorite thing ever: Reading boring data

As you can see I get some big spikes when I remember to post… Remind me to remember to post so that I can see more spikes like this.
The craziest stat to me on here is that I got an organic search, which means someone typed it into Google, and I just think that’s really neat! Was it accidentally me while trying to type my website out? Maybe! I don’t actually know! It’s very exciting though.
You can expect this week to be stacked in posts because while life does happen, I’m going to keep going with this so that I have at least fifty-two posts for the fifty-two weeks I have this website paid for.

This is your reminder to post so you can see the spikes. I too wish too see more boring data with more spikes
