Birthday Shenanigans Womp Womp

Well this post is overdue, and to be honest, I don’t have a lot to show for it. What matters is I still posted, which means even if I didn’t necessarily establish a pattern, I got right back on it. Listen, you can’t be creative 24/7. That’s okay! Sometimes you can’t be creative even after 240 hours. That’s okay too 🙂

I celebrated my 27th birthday on Monday, so at least I have an excuse! Now give me one last rep of “Happy Birthdays” until failure.

In lieu of having absolutely nothing scholarly to speak of, I think I’ll tell y’all about all the fun I had on Monday, plus all the cool stuff I got. Yeah, this is a filler episode.

Our story begins in Little Tokyo, with a pork shumai bun, a smores danish, and a sweet bun filled with dark chocolate and vanilla bean custard cream, plus a delicious matcha sea salt cold brew. My lovely gorgeous beautiful girlfriend, Aydan, and I walked around the Japanese Village Plaza and looked at cool (and a few highly disturbing) stores!

We got probably two-hundred more matchas, and then it was off to Topgolf.

Topgolf is interesting, and when I say it’s interesting, what I’m actually trying to say is that it’s awesome. You shoot golf balls off a tall platform while drinking cocktails designed to get you hammered as quickly as possible, what’s not to like? Aydan and I got to work on our swings, and our forearms have been screaming at us ever since.

Next stop on the birthday train was to my local game store, and I picked up some Magic: The Gathering cards. Aydan went above and beyond and got me the best dice set I’ve ever seen!

We went home and I had a wonderful time gaming with my besties. Aydan made a ridiculously delicious peanut butter sheet cake, and then I opened up presents. I got a lot of cable management-oriented stuff, which is great because the wires under my desk are a mess and have been bothering me a lot. Can’t wait to get those set up. She got me a lot of cool shirts, the majority of which were from the website of my favorite band, mewithoutYou.

Yeah they’re Paramore and Julien Baker’s favorite band too, so maybe you guys should check them out

Okay that’s enough of that!

Current plans for the next week are as follows:

  • Automate this blog process. I need to write ahead of time, and start publishing these on a schedule!
  • Become a calendar guy, if you guys have any recommendations on what you use day to day, I would love to hear them. I know next to nothing about planners or anything, have always been the “play it by ear” friend while also needing 48 hour notice.
  • Start learning how to design stuff in Canva and do research on digital products, as it’s currently a huge thing I’m seeing on YouTube and Instagram, and I want to see if I can hop on the trend! I’ll learn something whether it’s a success or failure!

Okay thanks for getting through the filler episode, it was probably less boring than watching One Piece, so you’re welcome!

  1. Calender supremacy. Keep a pen nearby and pin it to a place you frequent (we keep one on the fridge for my dad and a personal calender in my room for myself). Purchased The Art of Pants calendar two years in a row. Game changer.
Also pls tell Aydan I forgive her for making you my favorite cake

    1. I do like the idea of having a calendar on a wall, and so far it seems physical is winning over digital so hmm. I have no idea what you’re talking about with the second part though. Not one single clue.

  2. I love a paper planner. Get one! And keep a pen in it! And then write stuff in it! One year, i got one off Amazon and didn’t realize that the week started on Monday instead of Sunday and i fucked up a lot of events/meetings/happenings that year so my advice is to not get one like that

  3. Use your reminders app on your phone. Drew is much better at it than me but it’s nice for tasks that don’t necessarily need a full calendar hold. “Cancel DoorDash premium trial” and have it be 2 weeks out
